Blog Comments (M-T)

JAY -- nicely written, summaries are sharp/missing a practical application of the behaviorism theory to explain the change, missing any original research or personal stories which might advance the issue beyond the film

Jake's Take --GE, Good summary of the film, and style was very accessible. Missing original research to advance the issue, and some sort of theory on why this film achieves change in audiences.

MyDocumentalCritique --food, inc. good job on the film summary, but writing style was a little jumbled at times, skipping between ideas without clear links. Edit some. Good job using theory to explain why the film works for audiences (liberation). Missing original research that takes the issue beyond the film in your blog.

truthbetoldthroughfilm strong writing style, good film summary/missing theory for why film changes, missing original contribution or research on the issue

voicemusicmajor--waste=food, good writing style and summary of the film. You introduce surveillance function, but need to explain and apply it more before we understand how this film achieves change. Also, links without any explanation are not enough to advance the issue beyond the film. Teach us something new (using credible sources) on the issues from the film.

Thought Provoking Issues in Social Change Documentaries-Writing style is fine, it gets pretty choppy at the end with seemingly unconnected research on the issue. Keep your research focused and additive to the issue from the film. Missing theory explaining how film changes us. Good summary of film, very thorough. Try to balance your film summary with the original research on the issue and the theory explaining how this film is an agent of change.

google-jojofilmblogs--Writing style is creative and adapts to the three films. Summary of films are a little light--doesn't really give a sense of what films are about (with exception of last film), good approach at explaining theory throughout, but need more of a definition/explanation of behaviorism as agent of change. Good personal & research additions to issues beyond the films.

deceptionofthecoorprateworld--Good writing style, but be careful mixing your opinions into your film summary. You start out doing a good job with Spiral of Silence, but instead of applying it to the film, you go back to offering your opinion. There is no real place for your reactions in these blogs. Instead, do research or offer examples from your experience that advance the issue--requires new information from credible sources.

documentary nation --check facts, paralympics not Olympic sport. It is unclear when you are writing about your voice or the filmmaker's voice. Writing style is rough. You start to add an original story of a family member, but then you just leave it at a mention--original research or contribution should be as strong as the summary of film. Also, need some academic explanation which whe have presented each week on why this film speaks to able bodied individuals (missing theory).

docflickchick08 --writing is a little bogged down in last half and abrupt transition into the theory section, but otherwise good job on summary of film and theory of why film changes us (careful not to critique film, but explain it) and some good original research.

AnIndependentviewfilm--writing is rough, some gramatical problems in first paragraph sets tone poorly and careful not to mix your opinion in with the film summary--we don't know which part of discription is you and which part is the filmmaker's voice, good job on original research & contribution to the issue beyond the film, but although you mention spiral of silence, you don't discuss how that phenomenon makes this film change how the public views quadraplegics. Develop the theory section more naturally into your blog.

severebrainstormsbyscrubs--corporation, writing is clever style "film-reviewer", but the opinion isn't graded as more than just the 3 points allotted to "style" Otherwise, good summary of content of film using some broad and some specific details, and good job attempting to explain how film can bring social change by applying theory--stay with theory explanations provided in this class though. Link is not enough to provide "advancing the issue" beyond the film. You also need to provide original information or research on the issue or issues from film.
